Since my first ceramics class I have been drawn to the multi-faceted aspects of clay. The alchemy of creating something beautiful from mud and then transforming it using heat and glaze fascinates me. The chemistry of glaze, its reaction with clay and the firing environment are so complex and yet so elemental that I will never tire of it. My first reaction to any work is an intense curiosity. How was this made? What kind of glaze/application is that? How could this have been fired? Hopefully I’ll have plenty of years to figure it out.
