Most of my experience with pottery comes from the Clayworks Coöperative Pottery Studio where I was a student for 3 years and currently a member for the past 15 years. I have fully participated in all their sales as well as taught many classes there, including raku and horse hair workshops. If accepted, this will be my third year participating in the Cracker Pot Studio Tour.
Description of my work: White Horse Hair Pots are made of porcelain and horse hair, electric kiln fired with horse hair applied, and wax sealed. Red Horse Hair Pots are made of terracotta clay and horse hair, electric kiln fired with horse hair applied and wax sealed.
I’ve always been interested in and have spent many years experimenting with alternative firings. I enjoy the quick firing processes with their many times unexpected results. I draw inspiration for my horse hair pots from ware I’ve seen while traveling through the southwest United States. The Native American shapes particularly appeal to me.
