Tyler Howard

Iron Flower Pottery

Tyler Howard is a self-taught, colorblind potter, born and raised in Metro Detroit. Specializing in functional pieces, predominantly vases and jars, his work revolves around two-tone contrast between clay body, glaze, and the interaction between the two. This contrast even extends to his preferred clay bodies, fluctuating between dark stoneware and porcelain.

Creating his work under the name “Iron Flower Pottery”, Tyler currently resides in Ypsilanti, MI, working at the Plymouth Community Arts Council as one of their resident artists and staff members.

With pieces featured in numerous events and exhibits, including an appearance in the Michigan Fine Arts Competition in 2024, Tyler continues to work toward the timeless pursuit of perfecting his artistic style while making a contribution to the medium of ceramics as a whole.
