There is a saying: “I go to into the woods to lose my mind and find my soul.” I find truth in this. From a young age the forest has always been a fascination and my respite. Nature plays a large role in my inspiration for both the design and decoration of my pottery. I am primarily inspired by creation’s natural environment which includes the rich green mountains, vivid sunrises and sunsets, rock formations, trees, and crystal formations. These colors and patterns inspire the shape, look and functionality of the pieces I produce.

My creative process involves a delicate balance between control and letting go. I start with porcelain, which I shape and refine through wheel-throwing techniques. I then use a variety of handmade glazes with varying techniques, including layering and air brush applications. Then, I load them into the kiln and let the heat work its transformative properties. The result is a vibrant and organic surface that reflects the unpredictability and beauty of nature.

It is my intention for each project to be unique but useful. My arts-and-crafts collection seeks to mimic the tall trees of the forest with the multitude of colors of a sunset sitting behind them. My crystalline collection seeks to explore the fascination of crystals and the caves within which they are found.

For me, pottery is not just about creating beautiful and useful objects, but also about cultivating a deeper appreciation for the natural world. Through my work, I hope to inspire others to connect with nature’s creation and find beauty in the imperfections of life.

PS. Someone asked me “Why so many mugs?” to which I answer, “life’s too short to drink out of a mediocre mug!”
