Since I was a child, I have been fascinated with watching construction. I enjoy seeing things develop and unfold. I love the process of things “becoming something” as much as I enjoy the finished product.
When I was introduced to clay, I quickly realized that it was a perfect medium for my sense of creativity. There are so many ways to manipulate, alter, and decorate ceramics that I am never bored with the processes or the unusual surfaces that can be created.
I like alternative firing because it is unique and unpredictable – almost magic. When I first saw Naked Raku, I fell in love. I am attracted to the starkness of black and white and the random cracks and negative spaces. This form of raku, where the glaze is applied, fired, and removed is special. The exposed clay, with its remaining carbon markings, is remarkable.
