Biography
Born in East Lansing, Michigan and currently living in Ada, Michigan. I have been an Art Educator for almost 30 years. Retiring in 2018, I have dedicated my time to ceramic art.
I have always been an artist. My favorite mediums are pottery and painting, although I draw and garden as further expressions of my art. I have created a variety of pieces for the upcoming season that reflect my focus on family, our ability to gather together again, and the important things we share. The way each piece is unique in shape, size and color makes them all individual.
Raku pottery firing is a serendipitous process using earth, water and fire. The surface design of these pieces is inspired by my Michigan Native American roots. The lines emphasize the natural rhythms of nature. The small accents of turquoise symbolize inner healing, clarity of thought and recharging of the spirit. The tripod feet represent balance, grounding and stability.
My ceramic work is defined by my love of natural objects, form and textures. I enjoy the diversity of styles, both functional through traditional firing, wood firing and non-functional through the raku process. I love the step by step sequence of raku firing and the serendipitous results. My current work explores thrown vessels with decorative feet, handles, lids and organic forms.
